Teinturier are grape varieties that have red colored flesh and therefore have red juice after pressing, even without maceration. The flesh of these grapes contains anthocyanins that are normally (in grapes without colored flesh) contained in the skin of the grapes. Due to these anthocyanins, the juice of teinturier grapes can have high levels of tannins. Examples of teinturier grapes are Alicante Bouschet, Chamboucin and Dunkelfelder.
