A hydrometer is a measuring instrument to determine the density of a liquid. The hydrometer is a weighted float that is lowered into the liquid. The density of the liquid is determined depending on how far the hydrometer sinks into the liquid. The higher the density of the liquid, the less the float will sink (this is based on Archimedes’ principle). The corresponding liquid density can be read on the scale on top of the float.
