Degrees Gay-Lussac

The French chemist and physicist Louis Gay-Lussac has developed a hydrometer with which the volume percentage ethanol (alcohol percentage or ABV) can be measured in liquids of exactly 15 degrees Celcius. A Gay-Lussac degree on this hydrometer is the equivalent of 1% of alcohol by volume (ABV). At a different temperature of the liquid, the ABV can still be determined by using conversion tables in which is compensated for the difference in temperature.
