Collage is the process of forced clarification of the wine by means of colloidal substances. These are substances that do not dissolve in the liquid, but bind to the other (smaller) colloidal particles/ impurities in the wine and cause them to precipitate. Examples of colloidal substances that can be used are bentonite, PVPP, gelatin, kieselguhr, protein, gelatin, fish glue and perlite.
