German ‘Prädikatswein’ is classified on the basis of the ripeness of the grape and must weight. In ascending order of must weight the predicates are: Kabinett, Spätlese, Auslese, Beerenauslese, Trockenbeerenauslese and Eiswein. Depending on the grape variety and the German wine region, Beerenauslese wines require a must weight of 110 to 128 degrees Oechsle . Beerenauslese wines are made from selected grapes that are affected by noble rot. As such, the wines closely correspond to Sélection de Grains Nobles wines from the Alsace, but are less sweet than Trockenbeerenauslese wines.
